ORDINATION OF THE REV. ALEXANDER McNICOL 1850 |
---|
The Rev. Alexander McNicol was ordained by the Synod of the United Presbyterian Church, in the Protestant Hall, Melbourne, on Tuesday evening the 18th June 1850.
The Rev. Thomas Odell, of the Independent Church, commenced the service by prayer, reading a portion of scripture, and offering up prayer.
The Rev. William Jarrett, a member of the Synod, preached and read two calls which had been presented to Mr. McNicol: one from the district of Bacchus Marsh, and the other from the district of Mount Macedon, soliciting him to take the pastoral charge of the two districts, and put some serious questions to the young minister.
The Rev. Andrew Mitchell Ramsay, Moderator of the Synod, offered up the ordination prayer, and gave the charge to Mr. McNicol, and addressed the commissioners from Bacchus Marsh and Mount Macedon, and the Rev. William Butters, of the Wesleyan Church, concluded by prayer and pronouncing the benediction.
The Hall was well filled and the interesting and solemn evening seemed to make a deep impression on the minds of all present.
